One-on-one Coaching for Executives
Client:
Family member at a senior management level in a family-owned manufacturing business
Mission:
A family member found herself caught between the expectations of other family members active in the business and the demands and communication styles of new investors. The situation called for development of communication and team-building strategies with all parties.
Strategies:
- The situation was assessed in discussions with all involved parties through the use of a 360-type series of questions.
- Personality preference tools and other assessments were used to determine strengths of the executive that could be maximized and an awareness of areas which were not as strong, where additional learning and adaptation could be employed.
- The principal consultant engaged the family member in role-playing high-stakes conversations. This strategy successfully in increased the client’s self-confidence.
- Selected readings related to consensus-building, leadership, and communication strategies were discussed and practiced.
Results:
- The executive successfully became the family representative in all dealings with the outside investors.
- Family relationships were enhanced.
- The executive has been fully incorporated as a decision-making partner with the other investors.
